The mattress at the hostel is too hard for me and they didn't have any other ones so off I went to IKEA to pick out a new one. Unfortunately it doesn't fit in a normal taxi so you have to call a special extra-large taxi to get it anywhere (IKEA do offer a delivery service but it's pricey and the wait can be long ~ I need my good sleep now). The taxi company will likely tell you to wait to be collected at the loading bay. This is NOT the same as the front of the store, or the loading zone in the underground carpark. It is in fact out the back of the store amongst the IKEA workers on break smoking in place that looks nothing like a loading bay at all. To be fair to IKEA the mattress did come plastic-wrapped and boxed which I ripped off in an attempt to make it more 'squishable' (still didn't fit in a normal taxi, not that any of the drivers would let us try). If you ever decide on exchange that you need to buy a large item and taxi back: keep it in its packaging, go during quiet shop hours and make sure it won't start to rain before you get it home.
